Weeeeee’re all….going on a jet-plane…or boat even.
Ah shipping, the wonderful tradition of pulling character relationships out of nowhere. Is such a thing happening between Mike and Karen? Well, you’ll have to read further to find out (because I’m a jerk that way :D)
Dammit ! And I was shipping her and Magnu.
Karen and Magnu?!! That’s just plain silly!
(Starts twiddling thumbs) It’s not like….I was planning something like that…..you know….as a surprise twist for later on or anything like that….no….. definitely not……that would be….silly 😉
I can’t agree to this being pulled out of nowhere, I was already on board.
Firstly, they’re the two main characters of the comic, and they’re compatible. By then it’s already happening.
Secondly, they’re equally new to their workplace, they answered their first calls together.
Then, at the end of the first arc, Mike came flying, head first, aimed straight on Karen, crashed into her, knocking her off her feet, coming to rest lying on top of her…
This is like the ABC of fiction matchmaking or something like that. “Make a romantic comedy in three easy steps, your characters will be in love with each other before you know it!” Okay maybe not quite there yet. Unless that phrase refers to fanfic rather than canon, that is. Uhmm…. which it obviously does.
Scary. I have just experienced what it’s like when “the words write themselves”, and that last paragraph was the result. Scary, indeed.
Also, I clearly write too many comments.
There’s no such thing as too many comments 😀 Please go on!
I see you’ve already noticed the spanner I throw in later on, but yea, I have been slowly building up the whole Karen/Mike thing since way back at the beginning of the Q-Matic story.
When I introduced Karen, she was sort of a nameless throw-away character I introduced for the ‘training’ joke.
I brought her back of the Q-Matic story, because I had felt that a Manga-style comic should feature at least one regular female character. Thus, what began as ‘Mike’s Story’, became ‘Karen & Mike’s Story’. But even then, I never put too much thought into a romance arc for them. I did develop a bit of a connection between them, just in case I needed it later, but my plans still didn’t include a romance for them. This changed after the Q-Matic story, when I received a review from Deconstructing Comics. They made a very valid observation that Back Office doesn’t have a lot of character development, and that a romance arc would have balanced that out. With that in mind, I introduced this romance arc into ‘Office Party’.
I’m hoping to have fun with this, and I also hope you enjoy reading it 😀
And I’m now enjoying reading it for the third time already… you, dear Rawr, you are an excellent writer! 🙂
That is by far the nicest comment I have gotten in my comic career so far. Thank you 🙂
If you do enjoy my work, you might also like my other weekly comic: http://rawrtacular.com/bataneart/ It’s a fantasy ‘magical girl’ story based in Ireland. If you are in any way into this type of story, you might enjoy it too 😀
And now I’m apparently enjoying this story for the fourth time! It is still excellent 🙂
Thank you! I’m really glad that it’s got “replay” value 😀
Fifth time now, I guess… weird how I forget so much of it so regularly. It seems like it should be a memorable read. Well, my memory is generally bad at the moment, so I guess I’ll be back again pretty soon.
Back again pretty soon, yes. On the hunt for what is familiar about the current page. Didn’t start from the very beginning this time, just reading this chapter, so I guess I haven’t forgotten too much since last year.
This might now be my most re-read comic ever. Some or other chapter of Magellan is the other candidate.
