Is Laura right do be that confident about her abilities to “handle” Karen? Perhaps she never compared notes with Star Flower….
On a side note, I’ve started some work to renovate the site. Right now it’s just improvements to navigation. All of the chapters are named now, and the chapter dropdown should be more useful. There is also an indicator under the comic of the current chapter. I’ll be doing the same over on Bata Neart, and I hope it will improve the reading experience a little.
I’ll also start trying to spruce up this nearly 10-year old appearance of the site 🙂
Actually, what strikes me here is Laura’s confidence in Snow Flower’s loyalty and obedience. Especially considering that Sam’s induction as a flower girl seemed to imply that there’s a chance of the mind control not working. Surely some part of Snow Flower is not happy with all the attention Laura is lavishing on her shiny new toy? Unless the mind control medallions specifically prevent jealousy?
BTW, I would point out that the word “handle” is open to multiple interpretations in this context…
@Kessy: As usual, like the plot-line whisperer that you are, you are tapping into some ideas which are about to come up 😀
I’m going to try to explore the Flower Girl programming a bit more in this series. My thinking so far is that a programmed Flower Girl/Guy is essentially the same person as before, but instilled with an unquestioning loyalty/love for Laura and her GREG Initiative. All of this put together into a fanatical devotion to the “Team” and the building up of the Team to rid the world of the ‘coldness’ that Laura hates so much. Since they are also essentially enslaving a lot of people into becoming mindless drones, the programming probably also includes some corruption of the Flower Girls’ moral compass. Now horrendous wrongdoing can be justified if Laura sanctions it.
Snow Flower is a Karen who has been conditioned into loving Laura (+ all of the usual programming). Seeing Laura fawn over a “Replacement Karen” will likely create some emotional friction within Snow Flower’s programming. She’s likely been programmed to not mind if Laura gives her affection to another…but at the same time she is programmed to be in love with her…it may not “compute” for too long…. ;D
As for “handle”….yea I cheekily left that in there for the multiple interpretations suggested. I couldn’t help myself there…it just seemed too funny for Laura to think that having control over a mind-washed Karen was the same as dealing with the full fury of an angry Karen with her marbles in order 😀
“Now horrendous wrongdoing can be justified if Laura sanctions it.”
Unfortunately, that takes far less programming than you might you think. To be honest, so long as they’re convinced that Laura is trying to bring about a wonderful new world where everyone genuinely loves and cares for each other I doubt that much tampering with their moral compasses would really be necessary.
BTW, if Laura’s social skills are a bit subpar, could it be that she doesn’t realize what it sounds like she just said she’s going to be doing, and how that might come across to Snow Flower?
BTW, Laura seems much more cutesy than villainous to me. I actually find her a rather sympathetic character in some ways.
@Kessy: I’m glad you find her somewhat sympathetic. I try to give my villians some reasoning for what they do (except maybe for Crazy Recruiter Guy…he’s just unhinged), but I also liked giving Laura some heart to her character.
Thanks to my postings on DA you’ve already got a sneak preview of some of what is coming (that’s a plus of following my stuff on Social Media….*hint* *hint* folks ;D ), but I think you’ll enjoy what is coming up with her.
