Ah yes…the old Snow-Flower hair-pin (of which I’m sure I’ve screwed up the design continuity along the way…sorry about that).
Turns out the Karen held onto it? Even after everything Laura had done? What is that about?
Please pay us a visit on
Monday February 11
…where we’ll see if Laura is right to be hopeful.
Oh, interesting. I had not noticed that she held on to that!
@O8h7w: Karen is just too thrifty to throw away a perfectly good hair-pin.
@O8h7w: I tried to keep the Flower Girl pin going after “Office Party”, but I also tried to be subtile so that you wouldn’t notice. It has appeared since “Date Night” but also during “Insourced”.
It’s part of my own silly attempt to add “replay value” to the webcomic. I’ve planted other Easter Eggs too 🙂
@Delta: Could be that, Karen isn’t very wasteful. But there’s a little more to this…to be revealed later….
@Rawr: You call this kind of thing a silly attempt? More like professional technique if you ask me! 😀 Not sure if it really is, but quite sure that it works. Most enjoyable re-read I’ve ever had, other than Magellan (which if you don’t know it is a superhero cadet webcomic) and Detective Conan (yes, the entire manga) – both of which get their replay value by simply being huge stories with deep characters. With Magellan I seem to get to know the characters a little more intimately with every re-read, giving new perspectives and new insights into how they think and why. With Conan it is sort of the same, just not as profound. Back Office gets its replay value by being funny and by having these small elements that I missed the first time (or even second time) – it is very different!
Sorry about not writing that as two paragraphs. I’m bad at this when on the phone.
@O8h7w: D’aw….now you’ve got me all embarrassed 😀 Thank you so much 🙂
For the fun of it, here’s a bonus challenge for your next re-read (if you want). Karen’s sister Hjördis has actually appeared in Back Office already. Can anyone find her? ;D
@Rawr: I found Hjördis yesterday night, but then I had lost where you gave the challenge! She was in a picture hanging on the wall in Karens apartment. There you said that we’d be seeing more of the cast’s various homes and here we are seeing Laura’s living quarters. I now have the rather worrying question: will Karen always be in or on the bed as we are introduced to more and more bedrooms? Then I hope we don’t actually get to see any more, except Mike’s!
@O8h7w: Not to worry. I think my occasional weakness for fan-service results in these rather embarrassing room reveals (usually embarresing for Karen alas….). It shall be different in future 😀 (Just wait for the next story arc…you’ll see what I mean.
Well done finding Hjördis, I’m surprised no-one else noticed until now 😛
