…and try her she shall. Next week: Laura’s Story.
I hope the artwork turned out ok this week. I’m building up the guts to use my manga-pens more and this page (and next weeks) have been done with pen & ink-well. I really need to practice this ahead of Bata Neart chapter 6, and the next Back Office story, so here we are 😀 I hope this doesn’t screw up the quality for you, and if it does, I’m sorry!
So, if Laura thinks she has to mind control people to get them to understand her, does that mean she’s never actually had a real friend?
Ummm…that’s the muzzle of a 1911-design semi-auto pistol. There’s no stun gun with that design.
@Gwen: True, I did model her ‘stun-gun’ on a regular pistol I found while image searching 🙂
It probably should look more like a gun-style taser, but I’m going to cheat a little and assume that she’s invented some kind of semi-automatic stun bullet. (Probably not a bad idea given large number of people she’s enslaved).
@Kessy: Ahh Kessy, ahead of the story as usual. You will soon see next week 😀
The inking looks good to me, and you’ve got good continuity with what you’ve been doing.
Is there a reason you’ve sometimes been doing Laura’s hair with a gradient instead of straight black? Panel 2 almost makes me think of Gollum arguing with himself in Lord of the Rings.
A limp body is very hard to drag. It would slow them way down, possibly to the point that the “Good Guys” could intervene.
It sure is a good thing that villains (and misguided antagonists) like to talk so much that they will stop in mid-crime to do so. ^^
@Delta: (In my best imitation of David Tennant) But then you made your biggest mistake of all. You know what that was? You let me talk.
@Kessy Athena: 🙂
@Kessy: Thanks for the feedback Kessy 😀
As for the gradient hair: this is a trick I’ve pilfered from several mangas which unlines a strong emotion in the character. I like using it at moments of extreme sadness, anger or joy. Sometimes I like to use it to give a panel more impact. I like the Gollum reference for Panel 2, it was kind of what I was hoping for 😀
@Delta: Admittedly, a good villain in this situation would have just shot Karen without warning, or even just slapped a GREG medal onto her the second she arrived on to the island. Thus, Laura is not the sharpest potential member of the Evil League of Evil. But then, what fun would she be if she was like that 🙂
@Rawr: I actually LIKE Laura even as screwed-up as she is, and if, as I suspect, she’s about to admit a deep emotional trauma that’s making her act the way she does, I’ll probably sympathize and like her even more.
It doesn’t excuse enslavement, but c’mon, given who her father is, the real surprise is that she hasn’t tried to enslave the whole world with nano-bots. ^^
