Hmmm, is it just me, or does it seem like Laura is deliberately trying to make sure that she completely shreds any sympathy we might have for her?
@Kessy: I’m not sure it is deliberate. Laura doesn’t appear to have a problem with reprogramming people to love her, she might not understand what taking Snow-Flower for granted would do to her.
I meant it as a rhetorical question – I know Laura is a Socially Awkward Villain. (Heh, that ought to be a meme.) She does seem to have a talent for doing something just plain horrible whenever there’s any danger of the audience developing sympathy for her, though.

@Kessy: I find “Socially Awkward Hero” on the Devil’s Site (TVTropes), but nothing like that for villains.
