Yes, yes, we noticed the name Snow Flower and this-timeline-Karen being rather complicit one or two pages ago – get with the game, Rawr! 😀 The noteworthy thing on this page is that Laura is apparently looking to snare Karen’s sister Hjordis (Hjördis? Hjôrdis? I’m not from Iceland but a plain “o” seems wrong) as well, and that the whole crew and scene is apparently aboard a ship! Or did I miss something that already showed that they are? Or is Laura just more delusional than normal?
@08h7w: I interpreted Laura’s question as asking if their program of world conquest had reached Iceland yet.
@Rawr: Am I right in mentally reading Snow Flower’s dialog here in an emotionless monotone? Also, some pronunciation help with Karen’s sister’s name?
@Kessy: That makes more sense! I take my slightly nonsensical idea about the scene being on a ship (or Laura believing that they are) back.
@Kessy: I can see why you’d think Snow Flower is using an emotionless monotone, however I guess I was trying to go for a look of shock. She’s just seen a mirror image of herself that wasn’t Hjördis and it has come as a huge surprise to her.
Although the Flower Girls are brain-washed by the GREG medallion, Laura did leave most of the original personality intact. Snow Flower is still mostly the alternate universe’s Karen…just that she’s been conditioned to be in love with Laura Tantrum and to follow out her commands in service of the GREG Initiative.
As for Hjördis; this name is pronounced sort of like this: H’your’diss. The name is often shortened into “Disa” as a nickname. Apparently this is a very popular girl’s name in Iceland, with other Scandinavian countries also using it.
@O8h7w: Alas I did miss-spell Hjördis in the text. The “Anime Ace” font I use doesn’t have anything beyond the boring old non-accented alphabet, meaning that I have to draw those in manually. Bata Neart is a little extra work because of this. Any mention of Áine results in me getting out a drawing tool to finish the ” Á ” every time 😀
Hjördis is the Icelandic spelling (which I’m going with since she’s from Iceland), however I was tempted to go with Hjørdis, since I have an Ø on my keyboard 😀
Oh yes….and Kessy was right, Laura’s question was related to their plan to Take Over the World!! (Narf!)
@Rawr: My keyboard has Ö so I guess I got it easy 🙂 However, the Swedish pronunciation of that vowel – and also the first half of the name Hjördis in Sweden – is best described in terms of English words by the word “yearning”. With some reservation for differences in the pronunciation of that word, I’ve heard it also with the same vowel sound as “year” which is not what I mean. Not sure how the Swedish “Hjördis” compares to other Scandinavian languages though, especially not Icelandic.
“bird” may be a better example for the vowel sound I’m trying to describe, slightly less close but more universal. Also a somewhat close match to the middle consonant sound.
@Rawr: I don’t know if this would be difficult for you to change, but I think a big part of the reason I read Snow Flower’s dialog in a monotone is the lack of contractions. Maybe, “No, she’s not… She isn’t my sister Hjordis.”?

I agree it looks better. Using no contractions sort of made her sound like she was channeling Mr Data.
