Ah ha! Very well spotted Improbable One 🙂 Yes, that is indeed a reference to Doctor Who, and The Cybermen in particular. I’ve been a Who fan since childhood, and some of my favourite SciFi monsters came from this show. Q-Matic’s spiel to that doomed Call-agent, was a snippet from this classic line, that I just love:
“This broadcast is for humankind. Cybermen now occupy every landmass on this planet; but you need not fear. Cybermen will remove fear. Cybermen will remove sex, and class, and colour, and creed. You will become identical. You will become like us.”
Is the “Do not fear. We will remove your fear.” a reference to Doctor Who?
