This little excerpt from X-Factor UK has been doing its rounds on the viral video tracks lately, and it just blows my mind away.
For those who are not familiar with this video (or I haven’t embedded the link above properly – very possible),it features 2 typically self-deluded contestants of the X-Factor ‘talent’ show…however, with a twist.
It often seems that 1/2 of the contestants who participate in the opening round are people who have no grasp at all of how to sing (but have the odd opinion that they are unbelievability good at it) , while the other 1/2 seem to be well experienced and trained at singing (and should therefore be able to take a stab at recording something, without needing to appear on a TV talent show).
Either way, are heroines of this video belong to the first group. I often enjoy watching the train-wreck television that this group usually bring to the likes of X-Factor. I’m not sure why. I suppose it’s a kind of shameful joy, knowing that I would never appear on the likes of this kind of show, on account of not being able to sing….and knowing it. (Although pulling off a well-planned prank on live TV is a tempting motive). However, these 2 girls are something else entirely.
Abi and Lisa, who also go by the group name of ‘AbiLisa’ (damn that’s witty), are the most perfect example of Chavs I have ever seen. Loud, obnoxious and completely oblivious to the world around them, they would have made Vikki Pollard or the late Jade Goody proud. They started off pretty well, winning the crowd with the air-headed antics. They would have made an alright comedy act if the fatter of the two hadn’t told the audience to ‘Shut up!’ (due to them booing in response to the pair’s obvious stalling for time.)
‘Abilisa’ storm off stage, only to be directed back onto it by one of the stage-controllers. Seriously, what the hell was he/she thinking at this point? I know Train-wreak TV has it’s shameful appeal…but were they really aiming for a Talent Show Hindenberg? ‘Oh the Humanity!’ I think they were…
They continued to perform their ‘act’, with the smaller of the 2 obviously uncomfortable with the stage. She proceeded to face the way from the audience and spoke mid-act to her more brazen, fatter friend (while she ‘sung’). It was clear that had no business being on that stage (or any other for that matter).
The remainder of the video speaks for itself….
I have one fear about this. It does make a fun viral video, but it was stupidity like this that landed us with Jade Goody in the mass media for many years. Even more, they have their own brand name (AbiLisa), thus making them easier to remember. I really do hope that we don’t see this pair again, on any TV soon, otherwise we may have them inflicted upon us for years.
