Yes, that’s right. 2 unbelievable things happen. One, I actually post something *new* on a Bata Neart page (be it this time in lue of a new VDSD, see below), but also because of a shocking milestone. Mere months ago + 2o years, I drew the very first drawings of what would become Bata Neart. It would be another 10 years before I actually made it a webmanga, but it was way back in 2003 when it all started with my very first Ashling drawing, followed a few weeks later by the very first Aoife (with her original mullet…long story).
I had planned to make a video about this and I still want to, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy this full colour image of our trio.
I also owe you all news. As you might know, my webcomics went on hiatus due to me getting published. The anthology I was working with came to an end last year, but that just made me more hungry to keep getting published. Going forward there is going to be a balance between Bata Neart and my Last Day manga project. I think this needs another video to also explain, and hopefully that won’t be too far in the future! I hope!
In the meantime, t’is the season for something I somehow manage to scrape together in the last second each time. This time around it’s Áine’s turn to do a little daydreaming. Enjoy, but beware that all of the following is NSFW!!

We’re back baby! (Well…kinda)
Thank you 😀 It’s wierd to think that I have a webmanga that could soon be legally old enough to drink in the States. I’m still focusing a lot on the Norwegian Manga stuff (I really need to make an update on that), but I am slooooowly still drawing Bata Neart pages. They’ve been a bit delayed by delivery deadlines for other work, but I try to carve out at least one or two hours a week for this. It’s my (foolhardy) hope to have the first part of “Aoife’s Shadow” drawn up this year at least.
Hey, being able to drink is okay, just so long as the comic doesn’t qualify for Social Security…. ^^

All is actually pretty damn good. As before, my lack of webcomic updates is down to working on print-manga for publication here in Norway, as well as the usual Coffee Party stuff for print in Japan. A lot has been going on, and things are in the pipeline, but since I’m superstitious I’m not going to say more on that until (of if) something actually comes of it. I’m on nearly every social platform so if you have a platform of choice, I might be on it to give you some updates (and to see the newer stuff I’m drawing).
You guessed right on Naomh Gibbons. She’s the chain-smoker who’s in Ashling & Aoife’s circle of friends. What is the project you have in mind? Something you’d like Naomh to feature in? (I’d be very cool with that)
Good to hear things are going well for you and yours, Rawr. I tend to avoid “social media” for the most part so I may or may not see any updates. I generally check here every now and again to see if anything’s gone on.
As to the project it’s really nothing special; I’m just trying to put together a cast list for the comic just for grits and shins. 😛
Hello again, Rawr. A couple more questions if they aren’t too spoilery:
Does Aoife live right next door to Ashling in Ashford? I was looking at page 17 of chapter 4 and was once again wondering why Ashling was looking at that house so sadly.
Do Batas ever change appearance when they get a new wielder? I know Neart didn’t, but I thought that might just be because Múinteoir’s spirit was still attached to it when it changed hands.
I should reread this sometime…. Yeah.

Just as a quick “I’m not dead, nor is the manga”-update, as I’m alluded to before I’m working on publishing print-manga here in Norway these days, which is taking time away from making my web-manga.
I’m keeping Rawrtacular and the web-manga alive for as long as I am, but my time is going elsewhere for at least the time being.
But does that mean that Bata Neart is finished? Actually no, it’s actually part of what I’m up to. The Norwegian manga I had been publishing for a few years named “Last Day” is a direct sequel to Bata Neart and is set in the extreme future of the same universe as Ashling, Aoife & co. It’s set in a future where the world has ended, and a group of kids are trying to cope with the loss of Earth while they search for a new home. The memory of Aoife has become the stuff of legend and now a world-religion has been built around her, now renamed the “Star Goddess”. Memories of Ashling and Aine also play a role in all of this.
I’m currently redeveloping this manga as a stand-alone book series (Last Day was part of an antology “Shonen Jump” style publication called “Rakkan”) and if I’m very lucky it’ll get published. If it does…the next step will be to try to find a way to get it into the English-speaking world for all of Bata Neart’s wonderful readers.
Anyway, that’s the current status. If you are hunrgy for more Aoife-related fun, she is making regular cameos in the Coffee Party international manga. It’s sold in Tokyo but if anyone is interested I can point you to way to order the books online. Otherwise I hope everyone is doing ok. I do miss our usual banter and I’m sorry for the unending hiatus on all of this.
