TGIF! Which is fitting since Bata Neart updates on Fridays! π
This entire page is born out of first panel of an original Bata Neart page. In the original, I don’t believe I did a good job underlining the fact that the school-week was over. Instead Ashling was just leaving by bus, and there was no obvious reason for it.
This page also give me a chance to get into the ‘Slice-of-life’ banter of the girls. They do have normal lives beyond the madness that’s been happening, and I’ve always felt that this was important to underline. In this chapter, I hope to invite you into Ashling’s normal life, if only for a short while. Not to worry though, there will be more magical goings on before the chapter is done π
So the girls stay in the dorm during the week and go home on weekends? Interesting, most boarding schools I’m familiar with one doesn’t get to go home except on holidays and for Summer.
That’s probably true in Ireland too. However, as I’ve never been to this kind of school myself (I went to regular public school in Ireland, which happened to be walking distance from home) I based a lot of this on what I was told by some friends I made in college, who had actually been to boarding school. It seems that a lot of students live on-campus during the week to save them a commute, and then return home during weekends when that doesn’t matter as much.
Ashling falls into this category. However you will find out that Aoife tends to stay on-campus during the weekend. This is actually why she asked if Ashling was coming back to village for the weekend. Ashling would often return to Ballinafil Village on Saturday afternoons, Aoife would then walk down to there from the school, and they would spend the day hanging out.
However this weekend, something else will be happening….
Cool. I guess if you actually live close to the school, going home for the weekend makes sense. I’m used to hear things like “being sent off to boarding school in Outer Timbuktu” or some such. Damn you, Movies, you’ve failed me again. π
Thank crunchy?!? ha ha that actually made me laugh lol I like this girl she is definitely a card! and the perfect counter wait to Ashling’s sober personality.
@Howard: Aoife is a bit of a reader favourite it seems, and a personal favorite too π The “Thank Crunchie it’s Friday” statement is a reference to the adverts of Cadbury’s Crunchie.
