Okay, so I missed a step. Harry and Jim Bob showed up first. More suspense and drama, then comedy. 😛
Quick, Aoife, where did the Bata Draiochta land?
@Delta: Might be hard to reach. She is stuck under a whole load of fully-dressed girl.
Aine’s wearing a hospital gown, isn’t she? I’m not sure that qualifies as fully dressed, even if this particular example is a lot nicer than the average. 😉
On the way down the corridor toward the laboratory classroom, Aoife walked with a bounce in her step, periodically breaking into a skip. Ashling and Aine exchanged amused looks.
“You’re not looking forward to this or anything, Aoife?” asked Ashling with a smile.
“Yes, I was expecting you to be a bit more excited,” added Aine with a matching smile.
Aoife turned and walked down the hall backwards to grin at her friends. “We actually get to do magic in class! How can I not be excited?”
“Well, not running into the wall might be a good place to start,” commented Ashling dryly.
“Oops!” Aoife exclaimed as she neatly pirouted around the column she’d been about to walk into.
Aine grabbed her by the arm, pulling her to walk normally, “Come on, the classroom’s right here.”
The three of them entered the classroom, walked over to their assigned table, and set out their class materials. The level of chatter from their classmates indicated that Aoife wasn’t the only one to be excited.
“EHEHEHEHE!” cackled Professor Lukic loudly as she swept into the room. She seemed to loom like a dark presence over the room, despite being no taller than any of the students. “So, the day has come! Time for the first years to try their hand at real magic. Are you prepared, young ones? You have studied the incantations assigned, have you not?” Lukic punctuated the question by stabbing her long, bony finger at one of the students, who gulped and nodded emphatically. Lukic seemed not to notice as her sharp craggy features and bulging eyes swept over the rest of the students. “Because if not, there will be *dire* consequences! Ehehehehehehe!” Most of the class shot furitive glances at their notes.
With a wave of her wand, Lukic put the instructions for the day’s exercise on the board in glowing letters. She guided the class through the preperation of the ingredients and soon the small cauldrons at the center of each group’s table were bubbling merrily.
“Now, now comes the crucial part!” Lukic said ominously with a toothy grin. “For now is the moment you must begin the incantations. Each of you must recite your portion of the spell in turn. And each of you must maintain your concentration or else… You will come to regret it dearly! Ehehehehehehe!”
Ashling shot a concerned glance at her teammates. Aoife seemed completely unworried. Aine gave Ashling a reassuring smile. Ashling took one last look at her notes, and then took a deep breathe, raised her wand and began the incantation. Aine reached for the notes but carelessly knocked them on the floor. Ashling finished her portion of the incantation and Aoife raised her wand and confidently prepared to recite her portion. With an embarrassed look Aine bent over to retrieve the notes from the floor. Aoife’s gaze wandered just as she began reciting the spell.
The explosion rattled windows up and down the main building’s west corridor.
Aine picked herself up off the floor from a most undignified position, flipping her skirt back down into place. Ashling grabbed the edge of the table to pull herself up and with an angry glare called reprovingly, “Aoife! What do you think you’re doing?”
Aoife just stood still for a moment in a shocked daze, her hair a tangled mess and her face dirty with soot. She coughed once and gave Ashling her most disarming smile. “Aha, sorry, I guess I twirled my wand when I should have twiddled…”
“That doesn’t even make sense…!” Ashling exclaimed angrily before trailing off as the room seemed to darken around the three Irish girls.
Lukic loomed over them like some ghoulish bird of prey about to swoop down on its victims, her eyes bulging even more than usual in anger. “Did you not listen when I said you must concentrate?” she thundered, “It seems that someone needs punishment!”
After dinner, Ashling slapped her mop to the cafeteria’s tiled floor angrily. “This,” she grunted as she swiped the floor with frustrated vigor, “Is,” swipe, “All,” swipe, “Your,” swipe, “Fault!”
Aoife looked up unhappily from her own mopping, “I said that I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t mean you,” Ashling replied sourly.
“Hu?” inquired Aine with a puzzled look, taking a break from her mopping to point to herself.
“You should know by now what effect bending over like that has on Aoife,” Ashling replied with a grimace.
HA! XD
(Looks at Kessy’s post)
Oh wow…..
(Shuffles away blushing brightly)
Awww, don’t feel bad, Aoife. We know you were just being your lovable self. Besides I think in the final analysis Aine has more to be embarrassed about in that incident than you do. ^_^
Also, look on the bright side. At least Professor Lukic doesn’t make you run laps.
@Azrael: I’m glad you got a laugh out of it! ^_^ I think I amused myself rather too much writing it, so it’s reassuring that you think it’s funny too. I was considering adding that the girl Lukic stabs her finger at is named Sae (reference to Magic User’s Club).
Nicely done, Kessy. Nicely done.
I don’t know if there are any other fans here, but it seems Miura Kentaro, the author and artist of “Berserk” has passed. T^T He was only 54.

@Azreal: I did see the news breaking across a load of media, and good few of my cartooning friends were making tributes.
54 is way too damn young, and you can only imagine how much more he could have created, that is now lost. Alas I’ve never read Berserk, but like a lot of people I probably am going to now.
