Hahahaha! Why am I not surprised that Garda Rachel knows Aoife?
@Ask Aoife: So, how did you meet the cute garda? Hope you didn’t make too bad of a first impression. π
@Kessy: *Looks at page* Oooooo, Ashling is meeting Garda Rachel!
Yea, she is cute isn’t she? She’s especially cute when she’s angry….which happens a lot of the time when she’s talking to me. I’m kind of a sucker for a girl in uniform, and Garda Rachel keeps getting in cuties from the Garda College as trainees…and so she gets kind of angry with me when I start hitting on them.
Apparently the shop I work in is now off-limits to trainees while they are on patrol O.o
I miss seeing them on patrol. Especially Garda Jenny, she’s my favourite π
So instead of seeing the actual carnage, the Garda will only hear the sounds of battle–which should be even more confusing. π
@Delta: My impression is that when Aine said, “We have to go,” she meant as far away from the Fomorians as possible.
@Aoife: That sounds a bit like your relationship with Sharon. Maybe you just have that effect on women in positions of authority?
@Aoife Hey I found a character in the book I’m reading named after you!! its called “Child Of The Prophecy” by Juliet Marillier. I came across this book last week and its set in medieval Ireland. Its even mentioned the Fomhoire as well.I wont mention who or what your character is you will have to read it lol.
Testing
Anybody else getting 403 Errors trying to post here? I kept getting one for the last three days telling me I didn’t have enough permissions. πΏ
@Azreal: Huh, that’s wierd. I’ll see if I can look at the logs. You shouldn’t have problems like that while posting. It looks like you can now for some reason…
@Kessy: I don’t know why women in positions of authority don’t like me….because I like them….
Well…maybe not Sharon…she’s scary….but Garda Rachel is nice. Even when she’s angry with me she tries her best not to arrest me. She says things like:
“Aoife, if you weren’t a minor you would get 10 months for this!”
“Aoife, how the hell are you licensed to drive?! I’m really worried…”
“Aoife, in a couple of months you will be 18 and then I can’t protect you from this!”
*Blush* She knows my birthday…she’s so nice π
@Howard: Oooo, yea you will find a lot of Aoife’s in those stories. Also Ashlings!
My name has a bad reputation sometimes though. Most people know about the Aoife from Children of Lir. She was an evil witch who turned those kids into swans, because of reasons….
When Γine has time, I hope she can teach me to be a witch. But I want to be a nice witch…the kind that can do fun magic π
What’s a Fomhore? *Looks it up* Ooo, they look scary, good thing they are not real π
*K’TIC!*
What was that?
@Azrael: Didn’t some new digital privacy laws just get implemented recently? Maybe it has something to do with that? I suddenly had to re-enter all my information to post here, and a bunch of other places made me log back in or even change my password (very annoying!)
@Aoife: Well, when it comes to Sharon, consider her reaction to Azrael. It’s been my experience that cats usually just don’t like people who are genuinely scary. π
@Rawr: I may have mentioned this to you before, and I apologize if I have, but are you familiar with a series of novels called The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander? They’re a Lord of the Rings style fantasy based on Welsh mythology. Disney royally butchered them in an animated film called The Black Cauldron a while ago. I ask because the third book is called The Castle of Llyr. There seems to be a good bit of overlap between Welsh and Irish mythology, so I’m guessing there’s a connection to the Children of Lir? Although sadly there are no Aoifes in the novelization. π I think the villain in that one is a sorceress named Achren.
@Kessy yea I have experienced the same problem with Disqus. I am gonna have to reset my password I think. Luckily seeing as I have not set up a Gravatar and am still a guest here I have no problems.
@Kessy: Run to where? Like you said, those blasted things are everywhere. O.o
There’s something I’ve been wondering about. Ashling has had the Bata Neart for a while, now, and Aine has been with them for a bit, too. However, almost as soon as Aine graduates and gets the Bata Driochta, here come the Formorians.
So, are they after Aine for something she (or her people) did, or is having two battle witches in the same place at the same time the threshold limit for attracting Formorians?
What do you think?
@Delta: It’s been a while for us, but not for Ashling and company. Remember that the first time we saw the Fomorians was when Aine was running away from Sharon because she’d been left alone in Aoife’s room on the first school day after they all got back.
However, that being said, it’s entirely possible the Fomorians are simply attracted to concentrations of magical power. In real life it’s not an uncommon experience for people who’ve just awakened to a sense of the spiritual realm to feel like they’re being bombarded with things unseen. I’ve heard it described as a feeling of spiraling out of control. Once you’re connected to the energy of the spiritual realm it seems to attract other things that are similarly connected.
By the same token, a town with a lot of humans living together and other crowded places tend to have a lot of energy of their own that I wouldn’t expect to be a friendly environment for things like the Fomorians. If those sorts of beasties were walking down the street all the time, people would notice. Even if most people can’t see them directly, a lot of people would feel it if they were standing next to a beastie like that. A sense of dread, the hairs standing up on the back of your neck, the feeling of someone walking over your grave – that sort of thing.
True story: one time years ago when I was in college, I was out at a laundrymat doing my laundry in the middle of the night. It was something like 2 or 3 in the morning, and there was no one around. All of a sudden, as I was finishing up, I got this horrible sense of dread out of nowhere. I looked around outside and didn’t see anything, but this feeling stayed with me. So I quickly gathered up my things and headed home, cutting across the campus. The feeling seemed to follow me, so about half way home I was passing one of the commons buildings for the dorms. Those are open 24/7 when school’s in session, so I popped inside and as soon as I went in the feeling left me. I stopped by the mail desk and chatted with the person on duty there for a little bit. After a bit I was feeling pretty good again so I left (by a different door!) and headed home. As soon as I was outside the feeling of dread was back again, so I scurried home as fast as I could. As soon as I was back at my apartment I double locked the door and pulled all the curtains. The feeling left once I was inside, so whatever it was seems to have taken off.
The moral of the story – if you feel like you’re being followed by something nasty, go where there are a bunch of people and you should be safe.
Hey Rawr is this comic on top web comic? i don’t see a vote icon anywhere? that’s usually were I go to look for new comics to try you should enter yours if its not there already
Umm just ignore that last post I found it on TWC my bad.. π Well hey at least now you will be getting my votes! lol
@Howard: for future reference, and for anyone else having trouble finding it, the TWC button is under the navigation buttons underneath the comic, itself.
It’s not very big, but it’s there.
Hi all. Regarding that phantom update some of you might have noticed on wednesday, that was my bad. I derped an update into the wrong month. What some of you may have caught was the second-last page of this chapter.
I’ve very sorry about the spoiler, and that page will be up again in a couple of weeks. (Your comments are still there though)
@Delta: I have been meaning to fix that, and few other things.
Since Project Wonderful is alas closing down, I think I’m going to have to ditch the ad-panel which will give me some freedom to re-build and rebrand the site. Some of that will hopefully include a cleaner look, more “Bata Neart”-ish styling and better archive control.
Since AskAoife tends to go well, I plan to add an “Aoife’s Guide to Bata Neart” in addtion to chapter summeries, these will also hopefully include floor plans of the Dorm House, the School and any other significant location in the comic.
Just need to find the time to do it all π
Rawr, that all sounds incredibly cool – I’m looking forward to Aoife’s Guide to Bata Neart in particular, that sounds really interesting.
BTW, I think there’s still a typo – the page scheduled for 7/20 is listed as C09P10. I assume it’s meant to be page 20?
I’m excited for Aoife’s Guide as well.
@Azrael: Ha, ha! I’ll bet you mostly want to see what she says about you. ^^
Of course, I want to see that particular entry, myself… π
@Delta: And I bet you want to see Aoife’s Guide to the Cutest Women of Ballinafil. π Although you gotta admit, I’m sure she’s an expert.
@Kessy: It’s hard to resist having Aoife actually respond to that π
I have little doubt that Aoife would actually have candidates for the particular guide.
Wow, a lot of positive reaction to the Aoife’s Guide idea. I guess I really should stop procrastinating and actually do it.
PS, Kessy thanks for warnings about the updates. I was really dropping the ball that weekend π
Well, I’m reasonably certain we all know who Number One would be on that list. π
@Azrael I dont know I think Anie may be getting close to taking that honor.
@kessy: Not that I’d KNOW, of course, but I HEAR that’s a separate list from the Guide, and comes in a leaterbound coffee table edition… >>
