@Delta: As Kessy suggested, they probably won’t be able to percieve the Fomorians. Also, they’re not correctly “armed” to deal with them. Buuuut someone else is…
But what will they actually make of all of this? A Bata Neart and Bata Driochta in action aren’t small things, as evident from John’s totalled Toyota….also known as the future “Exhibit A” π
Wait when did we give them a name? Formorians? lol also I’m thinking the Garda will see just enough to make Rachel suspicious so she can be trying to figure out the mystery that is Ashling and the Bata’s
@Howard: The Fomorians are a race of villainous giants from Irish mythology (specifically they’re from The Book of Invasions if you’re curious) and Rawr has previously indicated that these beasties are his take on the ghosts of Fomorians.
@Rawr: You mean that proton packs aren’t standard issue equipment for the garda in Ireland? I’m shocked! π
@Howard: Pretty much as Kessy mentioned. I haven’t named them in-story (yet), but my readers have a pesky knack of being an intelligent bunch, and managed to guess my plans (Shakes fist angrily)
@Kessy: Despite the Gardai being a traditionally unarmed force, urban legend has it that all Garda cars conceal a shotgun and an Uzi in the dashboard…but alas no mention of Proton Packs. The danger of crossing streams may have been too much of an insurance risk π
I often wonder if we would be a lot better off as Americans if or cops carried non lethal weapons but that’s a political discussion and I hate Politics. Also now I am gonna have to spend an hour up here at work researching Fomorians while I should be working thanks guys ha ha π
@Howard: Well, police in the US do use non lethal weapons. If you think about it, they always have – the point of a billy club is that it’s not as deadly as a gun. The problem with non lethal weapons is that pretty much anything that can incapacitate a person can also kill or cause serious injury. Tasers can cause heart attacks. Pepper spray can be deadly to people with asthma or who are taking drugs or can cause a fatal allergic reaction. It’s rare but it does happen. Actually, they’re properly called less lethal rather than non lethal.
@Howard: Not to worry, we do sometimes chat about politics here but it tends to stay light π
The regular Gardai are only armed with the likes billy clubs, and that is usually enough for day-to-day law enforcement in Ireland. However given Ireland’s history with gun-violence and domestic terrorism, we also have the armed “Garda ERU”:
Although originally intended to take on the likes of the IRA and Loyalist militias, lately they tend to get called out whenever gun crime is involved and also tend to be as well armed / trained as the Irish Army (and they ain’t half bad).
ERU = Emergency Response Unit? That’s almost identical to the NYPD’s ESU (Emergency Services Unit). Although the most common term in the US is SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics)
I’m always fascinated by the differences and similarities in terminology. I’ve always been amused by the fact that both the US and UK have the IRS.
Dang, those things are everywhere – it’s like an infestation. Maybe they should call an exterminator? Who you gonna call?
Here come the bloody Fomorians again. Snapping their fingers like the Jets. π
So much for tender reunion time. I’m pretty sure that Garda Rachel and Garda Finn are about to see some truly terrifying firepower.
@Delta: considering that normal people don’t seem to be able to perceive the Fomorians, I wouldn’t count on it.
@Kessy: They might not be able to see the Formorians, but I doubt they’d miss Ashling and Aine using their Bata’s. ^^
“WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING?”
@Kessy: For some odd reason your Ghostbusters reference of calling for someone, triggered the following memory:
The weird thing is, to this day I still remember that fake emergency number, and this show is from 15 years ago(!)

@Azrael: Wait…if the Fomorians are The Jets….does that make Ashling & Co, The Sharks? Do I need to start drawing them to look like the Sharks? π
