Oh, Ashling’s in trouble now. When I was in high school my mom worked at the elementary school. I couldn’t get away with *nuthin!* Mom would know what I was up to before I did. One day I was walking to school one morning and scared a deer in a neighbor’s yard. The deer darted out into the road and got creamed by a car. So I went over and pulled the deer off the road. When I got home that day as soon as I opened the door before I could even open my mouth, my Mom asked, “So you killed a deer today, did you?”
Uh, did Ashling not realize that she bounced off of an occupied car, let alone a Garda car? I realize she’s excited about her new ability, but wow, talk about “tunnel vision”. O.o
I also notice that Ashling said “Huh?” instead of “Hu?” Is that a nod to us Yanks? ^^
@Delta: I had wondered myself what I was going to do here, and I kind of imagined that if I was in Ashling’s shoes I’d probably have so much of a head-rush from flying that I would barely notice what I landed on. At least that is my excuse for this page π
Ashling’s “Huh?” is consistent with typical Irish speech, but I do like adding nods to you Yanks π (Especially since you make up about 80% of Bata Neart’s readership…followed by Canadians…
The whole “Hu?” thing is a mannerism I invented for Γine. I use it for her, the Muinteor, and probably anyone else from her time that I bring up. Although you might also notice that Aoife has started doing it too π
@Delta: Ever try walking a road that you only ever drive? Even a fairly small change in perspective can make things look completely different. Especially if you’re moving fast. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if it’s only now registering on Ashling’s conscious mind that she just jumped on a car.
@Rawr: Naw, just normal Mom powers. You know, eyes in the back of her head, an intelligence network that makes the CIA jealous…
@Rawr: Hey, we Yanks know a good thing when we co-opt it for our own use. Thanks for sharing it. >>
And I just figured that “Huh” and “Hu” basically sounded the same, and was just a different way of spelling it–kind of a regional thing. I should have re-read the comic for research purposes….
@Kessy: I used to deliver a newspaper on a rural route which I drove at night. One day I had to drive it in daylight–I got lost. So, yeah, you have a good point. π
I’m curious how old are the girls. I know there in high school and I think it may have been mentioned in the archive but I don’t remember. Maybe this Garda knows them from school, she looks young enough
Well, so much for getting away with it. :/ Ashling clearly needs to work on her mischief chops. I’m sure Aoife would be more than happy to “take her in hand” for lessons. π
@Howard: I didn’t really do a good job at making Rachel older. She’s supposed to be in her early 30s. Where as Ashling & Co, tend to be 17. Γine’s age is anyone’s guess, but I’ve always assumed it to be about 19
@Azreal: Ashling would be required to join Aoife’s “Ninja-skills Dojo”, but I’m sure she’d share her wisdom in the most ridiculous way you can imagine π

@Kessy: Almost sounds like your mum has magical abilites of her own. Are you sure she wasn’t secretly packing a Bata Driochta? π

Of course, Aoife’s Ninja-skills Dojo requires strict adherence to their uniform code. Which changes with each session. π
