Back to the present and it looks like Aoife has gotten used to the idea of sharing her room with Γine. She just needs to find somewhere to store her collection of soft toys.
Speaking of which…I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that bunny somewhere before… hmmm….nah! It must be my imagination π
I love Aoife’s hair in the last panel – I’ve been flipping through the archive and looking at other drawings of her, trying to figure out how you made it look damp like that…
@Kessy: Thank you! π
I was hoping that it would look damp, and I’m glad it’s turning out that way.
This time around I did the following for this trick:
-I used a gradient tone across her hair (to give it more of a ‘shine’)
-I scattered the light reflections along her brow (to give the impression of wet hair overlapping)
-Finally I added little droplets to some of the hair tips, as well as on her face (to give the impression that there was still water there).
π
Heee! That’s an awfully familiar plushie, there. ^^
Also “WAIFU Material”. This page is just full of fun. ^^ ^^
I finally notice that Γine’s stick knows the necklace trick, too.
Aoife, you better make nice and apologize to that one doll. She looks like one to hold a grudge. π
@Delta: I was wondering if anyone would be able to read that π I’ve had this little quirk in Aoife’s wardrobe in the back of my head for a looong while. I’m glad to finally get it out π
I kind of imagine a lot of Aoife’s stuff to be potential Bata Neart merchandise (in the bizzare event of the comic becoming popular enough for that to work). Aoife’s “Waifu Material” nightshirt would be one, along with her trademark “Lucky Star” Bandau. I’d probably also go for the necklace-versions of the Bata Neart, and Γine’s Bata Draiochta π I’m going to be running this comic and it’s extended universe for many years to come…so you never know π
@Azreal: I kind of left that in there as a *given*. Since it was Γine who told Ashling how to do this, it would make sense that she could do it herself. But I really wanted to re-iterate it here that she has a Bata Driochta.
About that one doll…she’s based on a very vindictive Nao Yazawa character named ‘Ai’, who is a very powerful vampire. So….yea, Aoife really should be nice to her….(Ai is from Nao’s series ‘Moon & Blood’…which I recently got a small production credit in :D)
@Rawr: “Waifu material” is especially funny when you know the otaku spin on the meaning, and consider how well it fits Aoife. ^^
I was also amused at Aine’s reaction at a certain little alien mascot flipping past her. Um, does that constitute “Fair Use”? O.o
And here that doll was making me think of “Bride of Chucky.”
I have to admit that I’m not a fan of the term “waifu” and the idea of Aoife being labeled as “waifu material” doesn’t really sit well with me. It just seems creepy and icky to me.
@Delta: I’m glad you liked that spin on things. I had always felt that this would fit very well into Aoife’s sense of humor, and general fan-girl behaviour π
Glad you also liked Γine’s surprised look, I kind of like how it balanced out the page π As for the alien…I kind of randomly drew him. Did I accidentally get very close to someone’s copyright? π
@Kessy: Funnily enough, I was actually kind of going for Bride of Chucky when I introduced “Little Lisa” in Back Office π
I’m not a massive fan of the whole “waifu” terminology either, however I feel that it’s got a fairly broad meaning that goes from having a harmless pretend ‘crush’ on a favourite character…all the way up to ideas that get ‘icky’ as you put it. The extreme end of this word’s usage often makes me wonder about the state of the world…however that itself is what I had hoped would be part of the shock-value of this joke. I also feel that Aoife’s humor sometimes works in this way.
I like to put Aoife’s relationship to the word ‘waifu’ into the lighter/harmless end of things, where she has a couple of favourite characters she ‘crushes’ on, but that is limited to just her enjoyment of the shows she watches. Beyond that, her real-life relationships greatly outweigh her ‘waifu’ selections. Wearing ‘Waifu material’ on her t-shirt is mostly her twisted way of saying..”Hey…I’d like to be someone else’s crush too…”, as a poorly veiled hint to a certain Bata Neart-wielding girl.
Yeah, I figured the shirt was just Aoife’s way of trying to be the center of attention. Not that she’d *ever* engage in attention seeking behavior, right Aoife? π
I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, it’s just that I associate “waifu” with the “you really ought to consider seeing a therapist” end of things.
Actually it just occurred to me – learning standard English spelling is hard enough as it is, having a roommate with a love of Engrish will probably be a headache for Aine.
Oh, by the way Rawr, you were asking a while ago for a good definition of what moe is. MegaTokyo just did a great illustration of an especially annoying and creepy variety of moe, so I thought I’d share.

@Kessy Oh gods, that is a terrible power that should be used by a very select few. Fortunately, Erika is capable of handling it. Also, it’s always fun to find another comic fan out there. Especially a fan of poor MT.
@Rawr Here’s a bit more on moe for you: https://myanimelist.net/featured/1127/What_is_Moe__Top_15_Kawaii_and_Moe_Anime_Girls
@Farren: Actually MegaTokyo is the first webcomic I ever came across. A friend was describing it to me and I was like, “What are you talking about? A new anime or something?” In a sense it’s because of MT that I’m here now. It’s a shame the author doesn’t really have time for it anymore.
@Kessy: You’d be surprised. He actually streams his drawing sessions on an almost daily basis at http:///www.twitch.tv/fredrin. It’s not always the comic he’s drawing, but there is definitely something going on…and it’s usually interesting. At least the chat is always entertaining. :>P
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! The bunny! I love it!
And that shirt. Oh Aoife…
@melaredblu: Glad you liked it π
