@Kessy: It’s not just you. Although she isn’t smiling about it, Ashling certainly has enough instances of Aoife teasing her. And we haven’t even gotten into toilets, toilet paper, hygiene products….
And then there’s makeup, fingernaii polish, eyebrow plucking….leg shaving…..
I also wonder what Aine makes of all of Aoife’s stuffed animals. π
@Delta: LOL – I think they’ll be happy just to take care of the minimum socially acceptable stuff at this point.
Dolls have been around for a long time, so I imagine that Aine more or less recognizes what they are. Although she’s probably wondering what the heck they’re made of. Along with half of everything else she’s seen since she woke up.
@Kessy: For little girls to play with, yes, But mightn’t Aine be surprised that someone as old as Aoife was still playing with them?
Also those types of dolls were human-shaped. Animal effigies were usually reserved for religious or sympathetic magic rituals. Aine may be wondering if she needs to make an offering to them or something. ^^
@Delta: I’m pretty sure it’s obvious to Aine that Aoife’s spare bed is not any sort of shrine or altar.
Aine might be wondering about someone Aoife’s age having dolls, but considering how alien everything else she’s seen in the last day and a half has been, I doubt that would strike her as particularly strange.
Or, here’s another thought that just occurred to me. The idea of teenagers – people who aren’t children anymore but aren’t full adults yet – is a pretty recent thing. In Aine’s time Ashling and Aoife would have been considered full adults and of marriageable age. She might be thinking that the stuffed animals are for Aoife’s children.
@Kessy: Good point. In the American West 14 and 15 year olds were considered adults, and often married around that age–one reason the death in childbirth rate was so high (well, that and lack of doctors).
I’ll bet right now @Rawr is thinking “Those two are dangerous!” ^^
@Delta: Dangerous? Not to worry…I’ve *always* thought you were dangerous. That’s why I have a million half-broken CAPTCHAs protecting my site from you π
LOL Is it just me, or is Ashling savoring a little pay back here? π
