Looks like some magic needs an off button π
But will Ashling learn to do this properly, or will she some how make things worse?

I would point out that learning to do things properly and making things worse are not mutually exclusive.
@Kessy: Trial-and-error usually comes down more heavily on the “error” side. ^^
So would a spell continue to persist for all eternity if the caster died before they could end it? Clearly a spell can remain effective long after the person who cast is gone, if Aine’s magic deep-freeze is any indication. On the other hand, I suppose another magician could stop the spell if the person who cast it dies, but given that magicians are in short supply in the modern world…
@Melaredblu: I’d think it would depend on the nature of the spell. To use an engineering analogy, if you make a static structure of some kind, say a wall or a pyramid or something like that, it will just sit there until something knocks it down. I’m guessing Aine’s suspended animation is something like that. On the other hand, if you build something that needs a continuing flow of energy, it will keep going until it runs out of fuel. sort of like if you leave a car running, it will run until it runs out of gas. Or you might build something that has an external power source, something like a hydroelectric damn. The generators will keep running as long as water is hitting the turbines, but will stop if the river dries up or changes its course or the water intakes get blocked. A rain cloud represents a continuous transfer of energy, so it will need some sort of power source. Depending on the nature of that power source, it could keep running for days, years, millennia, or until Sol expands into a red giant and burns the Earth to a crisp. It’s extremely unlikely it could be truly eternal, though. Nothing is infinite, with the possible exception of the universe itself.
@Delta: Especially for me…with lots of Error…which incidentally is how I learn to draw too ;D
@melaredblu: I see you’ve played Knifey-Spoony before π You are pretty much thinking the way I am when it comes to this. Spells pretty much stay on until they are turned off π
@Kessy: You’ve getting deep into the science of the magic there…but also potentially a good chunk of some stuff I’m thinking of when I do world-building for Bata Neart π It’s interesting to think about sometimes while I ponder the consequences of Ashling’s actions.
Yanno, this makes me imagine Ashling and Aine walking into a kitchen to find the sink blocked up, the faucet running, and about a meter of water on the floor.
“Ashling?”
“Huh? Yes, Aine?”
“Maybe you should turn off the tap?”
Bonus points for Aoife snorkleing in the background.
