Uh oh…them’s one of the rules on a bus. Don’t drink alcohol, don’t talk to the driver…and don’t do magic.
I wonder what will happen now?
FYI this Sunday is the 17th of May, otherwise known as Norway’s national day. I’m starting to get in the habit of drawing seasonal specials again, and if you see a girl like the one below on SundayΒ chances are that she’s Norwegian π
Haha. Love panel 3 and Ashling is very cute in the next to last.
Aww. Flag girl is cute π
@Jen: Thank you π I was hoping those two panels would be enjoyed π I do like putting Ashling in cute-mode sometimes…just to prove that she can pull it off π
The Flag girl is based on my wife Anna, who is Norwegian. I’m glad her cuteness made the transition over to the drawing π
Haha! that’s funny. And true to life. In my experience, people really do have something of a weirdness filter, at least to a degree. People tend not to think much about things outside their focus of attention, and anything that’s not too far out of the normal tends to fade into the background. The driver probably hasn’t actually thought about what the girls are doing, and if you asked him, he’d probably say, “Oh, they were just playing with a lantern or fancy flashlight or something.”
On the other hand, when something does get past the weirdness filter, people generally don’t react well. Years ago, I was getting something out of a closet that was right next to my apartment’s front door. I suddenly had a feeling I should open the door, and I did. There was my roommate, key in hand, about to open the door, and giving me the strangest look. Things were never quite the same afterwards.
“Don’t make me turn this bus around.” π Keep it up and they’ll end up walking home. π
The Norwegian girl picture is very well done indeed, Rawr. π
If I were Ashling, I’d blame Aoife for setting me up like that–even if she didn’t do it deliberately. ^^
@Delta: Yanno, now that I think about it, I wouldn’t bet either way weather Aoife did that on purpose. π
I happen to be dead certain Aoife did that on purpose. This is from experience, I have been played exactly like that a few times, and never accidentally… granted I’m known as an easy target, especially for repeat tricks π
And I join the choir singing praise to the picture of the Norwegian girl. She is somehow both cute and beautiful, if that makes any sense. I somehow get the feeling Anna looks plain wonderful, even if she doesn’t have quite such a wondrous amount of hair.
Syttende maj is something I know about, but always seem to miss when it happens. Uppsala is a long way from Norway for a Swedish city… but I’ll take a walk around town tomorrow and see if I spot someone or something. At any rate I have a friend that is currently somewhere near Bergen, so I guess I will at least see a picture or two this year π
008, you are absolutely right. Looking at Aoife’s expression in panel 4, that is undoubtedly an evil smirk. LOL
@ O8h7w: I’ve seen plenty of women who were beautiful, but not cute (some high fashion models spring to mind). π
@Azreal: Thank you π
@Kessy: I think Aoife had meant for that to happen. You all seen to seem to know her very well now π
@O8h7w: I told Anna about your comment, and she was very pleased indeed π Awfully kind of you to say, and I am in total agreement. Thank you for your kind comments on the drawing too.
Ahh Uppsala! If memory and my map serve me right, you’re on the Stockholm side of Sweden? Quite a ways from Oslo, has usually taken me the guts of 6-7 hours to drive to Stockholm each time I’ve been there, so defiantly not in the immediate neighbourhood π Would be interesting to see if the local Norwegians stay in town this weekend, or make it back home to Norway. Maybe not, since the day after is a normal work-day π
Your friend should have a good time in Bergen. I’ve always liked that city, despite the fact that it almost never stops raining there (and yes it was raining there today π )
@Delta: I’m naturally biased, but I think Anna has pulled off both. Especially the cute part…I think a lot of my Aoife work has been influenced by her π
@O8h7w: We get the cabs (at least some of them) driving around with the Swedish and Norwegian flags on the 17th apparently. XD At least in Stockholm.
ARawr: Of course she is! My comment was meaNT to reassure O8h7w that it was fine to say that Anna was both beautiful AND cute, since that wasn’t just saying the same thing twice–there’s a real difference.
Soooo. Anna is part of your inspiration for Aoife, huh? Does that include all the mischief? ^^
Woo! Disco rave bus party! Oonce oonce oonce oonce!
Of course no magical girl worth her salt would dare manifest her powers without a killer laser light show. When this gig is over, she could get a job at Las Vegas or something.
@Jen: I didn’t know the Stockholm cabs would also fly the flags on the 17th, cool! π Here in Norway they go all out with that, with little Norwegian flags on all of the taxies, busses, trams, and even the trains! (I’m not sure how they manage the keep them from flying away.) The whole place is a awash with flags, which is something you would rarely see back in Ireland….even on St. Patrick’s Day.
@Delta: π Aoife’s creation pre-dates me meeting Anna, but I think she’s really inspired Aoife’s further development. The Bata Neart re-draw actually began after I met Anna, and I think her personality has made it’s way into my writing for Aoife. When I created her, Aoife was mostly already the character you know now, but being with someone who you could call the real-life equivalent of Aoife has helped me make her seem more complete and as realistic as I think I can manage π
@melaredblu: Ooooo….I should have put those sound effects in. Oonce oonce oonce! π
Agreed on the magical girl light-show convention. Otherwise there’s just no point in being magical π
Maybe Ashling can team up with Princess Chroma and do that Vegas light show you mentioned. We can split the proceeds π
