I can’t decide if that’s a military uniform or one from the constabulary. My Google search tells me it could be either. At any rate, whether at home or in foreign fields, it’s looking like Mr. Connolly was a true Son of Martha and may have paid the final price.
@Kessy: It’s alight Kessy, you couldn’t have known… I’m so sorry for making you feel bad π
I was little when I lost him, and it was a very long time ago…but sometimes I’ll start to miss him…a lot…I should have just said that instead of running off…
If it’s any consolation, you’re even further into Aoife’s good-books. It gave her an excuse to give me a long hug π
@Azreal: My Dad was a Garda…which is our name for Police in Ireland. He’s wearing his uniform in my picture.
@Kessy: I’m sorry if this page did genuinely make you feel bad.
I was wrestling with the idea of drawing this page, because much like last weeks “ASH”-splosion, this had less to do with answering the question, and more to do with Ashling’s emotions. This time however it felt a lot darker, thus my wrestling with the idea.
I felt that by learning about Ashling’s father this way, you would get more of feel of Ashling’s “soul” for want of the better word. You were going to learn this anyway in the main story, but this felt like a good time to reveal it too.
I’m sorry about the darkness. I wanted to get this one done now, so that I can get the more light-hearted stuff in place for the holidays. Remember your other questions Kessy? ;D
@Azreal: Your confusion on the uniform is understandable. Without a colour reference there is no way to tell the difference.
The Irish Army, An Garda SΓochΓ‘na (The Police), and the Irish Air Corps have nearly identical uniforms with the only difference being colour. They are all based on the original revolutionary Irish Republic uniform. Only the Irish Navy, and Irish troops in UN uniform appear to be different.
Ashling’s dad is wearing the classic jacket version of a Garda uniform, although typically you’ll usually see them wearing a high-visibility jacket with “GARDA” printed in large letters.
@Rawr: Don’t worry, I think this is all great character development for Ashling. I did actually genuinely feel bad, but only a little. It kind of surprised me that I’d feel bad about upsetting a fictional character.
And besides, it’s worth it if it got me in Aoife’s good books. If Ashling answers the question I’m hoping she’ll answer, I might need the credit. π
Well…shit. π

Aw crap, now I feel bad. I’m sorry Ashling! And I was trying to keep my questions lighthearted, too…
Looks like @Kessy: found another of Ashling’s buttons. π
The poor girl seems to be something of a human minefield where bad buttons are concerned…..
