It’s December 2013, and we have entered a surprisingly special period of Bata Neart’s life. This month marks without too much doubt, the 10th Anniversary of Bata Neart’s creation.
Way back in 2003, I drew a once-off drawing of what would become Ashling. The title of that drawing was ‘Bata Neart’. I honestly can’t remember when in 2003 I drew it, only that I drew it that year. And so, the only time I can declare this anniversary with any certainty, is the end of this year.
It’s very surprising to think that this comic is that old. It traces its origins way back into my early days of cartooning, it goes from my highs, to my lows. It followed me on my adventures into China, and emigrated with me into the wilds of Norway. Finally it arrived here on RAWRtacular as one of my webcomics.
It has been one hell of a journey so far, and I would like to celebrate.
And so, just before Christmas week, I will launch Bata Neart’s first ever reader competition!! π
Watch this space for more details.
Congratulations, Rawr. Looking forward to the rest. π
So Neart is the Staff’s name, then?
Thank you! Hoping the next 10 years will see the comic grow and become better than it is now π
Ah ha! Someone has been looking up an Ogham chart! Since you were so proactive, and for the record: the Staff’s name is in-fact the ‘Bata Neart’.
I derived the name from a very old Irish-English dictionary (probably about 50 years old now) and it’s translation via Google Translate will appear very odd. If you translate ‘Bata’ and ‘Neart’ on their own I think you’ll get the name’s correct meaning π
Hmmm, I got “stick” and “strength”. So that might translate to Staff of Power, perhaps?
Got it in one π
The girls will figure this one out later on, as well as the ‘Bata Neart’s’ name. Until now, it’s just a wierd ghost stick.
