Now we’re finally wrapping up these scene. As I’ve said before, this is one of my favorite scenes in the original, and I’m surprisingly very happy with the new edition too.
I did make one correction to the original page that you might now notice:
In the original, I wanted to create the impression that the ball was going so fast that it embedded itself into a tree-trunk. (See Second Top Panel) However, that didn’t turn out like I hoped.
So in the re-draw I instead opted for the ball to ‘explode’ the trunk and ultimately fell the tree.
The rest was pretty much the same with an art update. You might of noticed the oddity of the Flag-Girl. She is a ‘Goal Judge’ and are common in GAA sports. Typically, a pair of them would stand on either side of the goal posts wearing long white coats (kind of like lab-coats). It’s their respective jobs to judge and declare successful Goals and Points scored. Β If you go back to the last page, you’ll actually see them both as the ball approaches the goals.
One last note from the old page. You might notice the joined ‘M.E’. logo on one of the posters in Ashling’s room. This is actually the logo of M.E. Productions, which was going to be my first brand to use while marketing my work. I scrapped that idea long ago, and later founded RAWRtacular Productions for that same purpose. It’s kind of fun to see little cues from my past in these old pages π
Next week, a new production page!
Ah excellent, wood for the Winter. Well done, Ashling, now you won’t have to burn peat for a while. π
Ah yes. That’ll take care of this years budget deficit π
On a side note, if you encountered the site weirdly yesterday, I’m sorry. An update went pear-shaped and now the site runs on ComicPress 4…which is really ComicEasel. :/ Hopefully it should run ok now. New site additions are the chapter drop-down on the left panel, and social media links in the menu bar π
That Sharon is pretty phlegmatic. Actually, I think everyone is underreacting, given that that… shouldn’t be humanly possible.
Also, I’ve missed out on commenting on the last few pages, but I must say the shallower part of me likes those PE-outfits. π
It is a bit unusual for them to under-react (except for maybe the girls who jumped away in terror), but I kinda imagined any break to the regular monotony of the game to be somewhat welcomed (even if it did kill a tree).
Questions of *how* Ashling was able to do that will come later in the story π
Glad you liked the PE outfits π It’s actually a little toned down from what I had in the original comic, but not by much. I sorta like the irony of having a school run by nuns that features such a revealing sports uniform. Doesn’t really go with the trope there π
