Don’t worry, Fiona, the mysterious transfer student is traveling on Checkov Airlines so she’ll arrive at exactly the right point in the plot. The only question is whether she’ll turn out to be an alien, an esper, or a time traveler.
@Kessy: It’s a bloody nightmare to book tickets with that airline too. Everyone’s either Drunk or just Overdoing It in the booking office. Don’t know why I’m using a Russian airline…she’s not even from there ;D
@Rawr: You’re flying with Chekhov’s because whatever other faults they may have (Like thinking it’s a good idea to hire a fuzzy dinosaur to deliver packages!) they have an absolutely perfect on time arrival record. And while Chekhov Industries may have started out as a Russian company, they’re thoroughly multinational now. Isn’t their corporate headquarters a post office box in the Cayman Islands?
@melaredblu: I think that Ashling would be completely delighted to see Aoife get a girlfriend. And not just because that would redirect Aoife’s energies away from her, but because I think she’d love to see Aoife happy like that. I mean, think about it – imagine Aoife silly in love, staring out a window and sighing with a big dopey grin on her face, being even more bubbly than she normally is…
The thing I’m really curious about is how Aine perceives her relationship with Aoife at this time. I mean, since the line between friendly affection and romantic affection is entirely cultural, how does Aine see holding Aoife’s arm like that?
@Rawr: The way I’m seeing it at the moment Aine is still in a sort ‘survival’ mode. She’s been thrown into a strange new world, full of people speaking a different language, most of whom have access to many types of unusual ‘magic’ and to top it all off she’s currently in what used to be enemy territory.
Right now she’s probably trying her best to find safety. Ashling and Aoife have offered her this, and so far have not proven themselves to be any kind of threat to her. Although Ashling appears to have a connection to her old Muinteoir, so far it has been Aoife who has taken the challenge of caring for Aine which I guess makes her the safest person to stick with. Throughout the progress of Book 2 (this current book of Bata Neart), I’m going to try and show Aine moving away from this “survival mode” and starting to feel at home in the 21st Century. Aoife will be a major part of that change π
You are also very correct with how Ashling would react to Aoife finally getting a girlfriend. Aoife is her BFF, but she has no romantic interest in her and has regularly had to keep her at bey from her all-too-regular advances. Their love is platonic. Ashling would be very relieved if Aoife found love, and would most likely hope for someone who will take care of her (would probably also read that girl the ‘Riot Act’ & warn her not to break Aoife’s heart.)
Oh gods, heaven help the girl that breaks Aoife’s heart! Especially now that Ashling has the Bata Neart. I don’t think an overprotective father has a thing on Ashling on the warpath.
Hmmm, I wonder where Ahoge Girl will be from?
Now, now, Aoife. When you adopt an Γine it’s up to you to take care of her and see to her needs. No more foisting young lady. :p
Well, to be fair, Aoife, has done the most to help Aine cope with her new life.

Better watch out, Ashling. Your position as Aoife’s bestie is looking shaky.
@Azreal: I ain’t gonna say where’s from. Then she won’t be a ‘Mystery Girl’ no more ;D
I think Aoife is up to the challenge of caring for her new friend from the (maybe) Dark Ages. She’s already learned what *not* to feed her (yet)
π
@Delta: True. It was Aoife’s idea to take her in, she has been keen to feed her, and is trying to make her feel welcome.
No surprise that Γine seems to like her the most π

@melaredblu: Γine is becoming a bit of a contender for sure, but I think Ashling might welcome a break from Aoife’s attentions π

I think Ashling would probably react to someone breaking Aoife’s heart about like this:

@Kessy: On Ashling’s reaction to any heartbreak for Aoife, I think you nailed it, dead center. π
@Kessy: AH HA! Awesome! π
Prefect mash-up. You nailed it dead center, just as Delta said π
Poor old Aoife….this is what she gets for dating a GREG girl.
