@James: I got a different translation for “innill”. And that might not be the right order for the other words. Also, there’s a second possible translation for “innill” that makes even more sense.
If I’m right, The other three are going to have their hands full preventing a LOT of mayhem. O.o
@Rawr: Aine’s look of triumph in Panel 1 is priceless, and you’re really stepping up the dramatic delivery here. Kudos!
@Delta: Well, on the bright side, since Aine knows what she’s doing they shouldn’t have to deal with things like a sports ball accidentally being turned into a lethal projectile…
@James: You translated it correctly James (which by the way is still cheating π ). Indeed, Γine is now a Battle Witch. This is something that I’ll be expanding on throughout the run of Bata Neart, but Γine was training under a War Priestess at a time of perpetual war. She has become what I like to call a ‘Battle Witch’.
@Delta: I think it’s going to be Γine that will be trying to keep a lid on things π
Thank you for your kind comments. I’m trying to build up the emotion a little now that we’ve reached the end of the chapter. Next week’s page continues Γine’s feeling of happiness.
@Kessy: That’s pretty much the gist of her role now. Since she’s actually a trained Witch, Γine will (hopefully) be able to guide Ashling in controlling her magic.
@Delta: I haven’t planed John’s next appearance yet, (John & Fiona are still an item at this stage) but I’m going to tie his next appearance with his last one. He might have a new car, or he might not due to his insurance company being jerks about ‘magical related damage’ not being covered π
Which makes me wonder how exactly John explained the cause of the damage to his car. Somehow I doubt that the police are going to buy, “Well, my friend accidentally blew it up with her magic staff.” As for his insurance company, they might well decide that he set the car on fire himself as part of insurance fraud.
Incidentally, the insurance industry is one of the few industries that you can point to and say that their business model is simply evil. For example, after Hurricane Katrina, insurance companies were denying claims because house insurance covers storm damage from winds, but not from flooding. Therefore, since many people’s houses were destroyed by the tidal surge, that’s flooding and the insurance companies didn’t think they should have to pay.
Yes, flood insurance is a whole separate policy from regular home owner’s insurance. You have to contract that coverage specifically or for the most part you’re not covered.
@Kessy & @Azreal: Fully agree, insurance companies are just plain evil. In Ireland they are no better than what you encounter in the US, and motor insurance is punishingly expensive unless you are a 60 year old woman driving a microscopic Japanese hatch-back car with a 0.5 CC motor, not living near Dublin and with no claims for the past century.
Basically, if you have the gall to actually use your insurance (doesn’t matter if you were the victim of another driver’s stupidity), if you have purchased a car of any value what-so-ever, if you are in anyway young, or if (god forbid) you are male, then you are going to get slapped with a hugely increased premium. Also if you have another driver for the car, you gotta reinsure the whole car twice, and pay twice as much.
Thus, I don’t fancy John’s chances. I might form some kind of joke around this later π
BTW, Mark, two things: 1-I agree-John is outta luck!
Ugh! Poor guy!!!
2-I apologize for mentioning the cheat on the translation but I was trying to figure out how she became a “combat Mage”.
I knew her mistress was a Combat Mage but when Aine was frozen did her mistress transfer her essence to Aine to be released when Aine was released from her icy stasis…???
Just askin’……
BTW, I was wondering what are the two lobes at the top of Aine’s head in the last panel? It almost looks like she’s wearing a bow in her hair a la Sailor Venus.
New teammate GET!
But in all seriousness, as you can imagine, I don’t understand a word she’s saying. But her expression, man. Her expression says it all. It’s beautiful how happy she looks.
@melaredblu: Thank you, you are very kind for saying π The translation is coming this Friday on the next page, but I was hopeful that people would at least understand that Aine was really very happy with what has just happened π
@Kessy: Those are hold-overs from Nao’s design of Aine (she actually drew Aine and Ashling while instructing me, I should find those images for you folk someday.) I try to introduce them whenever the drawing allows, but eventually I will need to diversify her design a bit. As she is, she’s a little too similar to Sharon Connors (the ‘evil’ PE teacher), as well as a couple of other students from ‘classic’ Bata Neart who will be returning in future chapters.
@James: Relax! I just enjoy wagging my finger whenever anyone ‘cheats’ with Google Translate π Honestly, I’m delighted that readers even go to the effort of doing that.
As for your question: I can’t answer it fully, because that would reveal a major spoiler that I’m holding onto. What I can tell you is that Aine has now become what I am calling a ‘Battle Witch’. As time goes on, I will be doing a bit more universe-building around the idea of the Battle Witch and their history. A lot of the remaining chapters of this ‘book’ of Bata Neart will cover Aine’s attempts to intergrate with the 21st Century, while training Ashling to also became a fully fledged Battle Witch.
The War Priestess sort of had a master / apprentice relationship with Aine, and this moment now is just the accumulation of her training, with her finally gaining her own personal ‘Bata Draiochta’.
Ha, it’s funny that you’d mention Aine looking like Ms Connors. C05P33 http://rawrtacular.com/bataneart/comic/batac05p33/ was on the front page when I was first reading the archives, and I assumed that Aine was Ms Connors. I think the fact that Aine was wearing Aoife’s school uniform at the time had a lot to do with that. I remember wondering what in the world Ashling and Aoife could have been up to to make their teacher cry like that.
It just occurred to me, is the name Sharon Connors a Terminator reference?
I am Aine!
Today, I am a Battle Witch…
(Okay, now I’m lost….)

Jim
Mark???
To be a “Battle Witch”????

Okay, my Gaelic is way off, I always thought “cath” was cat. Hmmm. Alas.
@Delta: Well, on the bright side, since Aine knows what she’s doing they shouldn’t have to deal with things like a sports ball accidentally being turned into a lethal projectile…
@Kessy: That’s a good point. π
(And don’t forget that guy’s car. ^^)
@James: You translated it correctly James (which by the way is still cheating π ). Indeed, Γine is now a Battle Witch. @Kessy: Terminator references? Come on now, it’s not like I have naked time-travellers suddenly popping up into the plot do I? Oh…wait….
